Why do we introduce lexical functions?
An international nature of mathematics makes an introduction of lexical functions possible. School mathematics is approximately the same worldwide. Naturally, each country has priority directions; however, if the database is wide enough, it can satisfy various nuances of different school programs.
Who needs lexical functions?
Let us describe the set, which, to our opinion, would find this function useful:
- People living in the countries with two and more state languages.
- People forced, due to some reasons, to study not in a native language. This problem is serious. Mathematics in itself is not the easiest subject, and if this is overlapping with shortage in language skill and with adaptaion problems, such burden can be too much even for an adult. The principle - "who sinks is not a seaman" - is a good principle, but only if it is applied to someone else.
- In some countries, there exist the specialized language schools, with the practice of teaching in foreign languages. Teachers and students of such schools may find lexical functions, offered by our programs, quite useful.
- Persons planning to continue education abroad.
- Persons studying foreign languages independently.
- Others.
What is the purpose of lexical functions in the programs of our complex?
Let us tell at once that it is impossible to learn foreign languages with our programs. The purpose of our programs is narrower. The language of mathematics is a professional language with specialized lexicon. The purpose of lexical functions is to help in leaning this lexicon.
Lexical functions of the programs of the complex "EM Teachline" offer a user the following options:
- Function of translation - allows for an instant translation of every appearing phrase to any of languages included in the complex.
- Multilinguality - allows changing the language of interface to any of languages included in the complex.
Study of lexicon: a system of exercises allowing learning translations of math-related phrases - definitions, formulations, rules, etc.
How to use lexical functions?
This depends upon your intent. There are different ways of use; we shall describe a couple of examples:
- If you do not speak any foreign language at all, you can try the following method. Adjust the program to your native language, and choose the language on which you study as a language of translation. Get outside of mathematical problems of interest, and keep calling translation of every appearing phrase. Then "turn around" the language settings, and try to do the same exercise again, but in a foreign language. In parallel, learn all phrases, using the functions "Study of lexicon", both in direct and backward directions.
- If you speak language, being interested in mathematical slang only, then the use of the functions of translation may suffice.
The programs are easy to control; therefore, the most reliable method to choose those modes of training which suit you best is to try the program yourself.
